Pro BMX Athlete Nigel Sylvester and the Nigel Sylvester Foundation Celebrate National Bike Month in May

New York City, NY (May 31, 2022) – Professional BMX athlete Nigel Sylvester and the Nigel Sylvester Foundation hosted several events and initiatives throughout the month of May in celebration of National Bike Month. May represents a key time for the Nigel Sylvester Foundation to further deepen its impact in the community and support its mission of providing bicycles to underserved youth.

Throughout the month, Nigel along with several communities and brand partners hosted numerous events, including Bike-a-Day in May, LIFE Camp, Inc. bike giveaway, and LA Dodgers activation. Thanks to our partners, the Nigel Sylvester Foundation was able to donate 51 bikes and impact over 250 people in May alone.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to share bicycling with so many kids”, said Sylvester. “A bicycle afforded me so much, so to be able to share that with kids, it’s important. I know these kids will enjoy these bikes. A lot of good times and fun moments will come from them.”

Bike-a-Day in May

On May 2, the Nigel Sylvester Foundation partnered with former New York Yankee, CC Sabathia and his PitCCh In Foundation to surprise 31 kids from various Boys and Girls Club locations throughout the New York City area with brand new bikes. Each child received a bike and had the opportunity to meet Nigel and learn about his Foundation and why it’s important to stay active and give back.

Community MVP

On May 7, the Nigel Sylvester Foundation partnered with Specialized Bicycles to gift LIFE Camp, Inc. new bikes to incorporate outdoor and health and wellness programming into their programming which provides youth and families that have been impacted by violence the valuable tools needed to stay in school and out of the criminal justice system. LIFE Camp, Inc. founder Erica Forde was honored as the first ever Nigel Sylvester Foundation Community MVP for her dedication, hard work, and advocacy for violence prevention in the community.

L.A. Dodgers Game

On May 15, the Nigel Sylvester Foundation partnered with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Dodgers right fielder, Mookie Betts to surprise deserving kids with an experience of a lifetime. Nigel hosted kids from Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA) at the Dodgers game, where the kids were gifted new bikes, enjoyed a meet-and-greet with Mookie Betts, and experienced a Dodgers game at the historic Dodger Stadium.
